Sincerely yours, Emily Mintz "Those of us who knew Carl are deeply distressed over his death on Tuesday after being struck by lightning during Sunday's storm. The Post wrote a lovely article about him (today, page 1 of the Metro section). Carl was inspirational to me and many others. In 1994, he came to our community, armed with charts and figures, detailing the many issues regarding the as-yet uncharted Montrose Parkway. A dedicated transit and transportation alternatives advocate, he introduced us to transportation and smart growth concepts, consulting along the way (it is because of Carl and his great reasoning that I became active in the fight against the parkway). He ran an anti-road construction website that taught alternatives to spending money on auto-based transportation, always gentle, always informed, and leading by example. Carl commuted by bike (and he didn't live as close to his work as many would think!), spending his "leisure" time in meeting with community activists, teaching environmental responsibility, and, as highlighted in the news coverage of his passing, developing community gardens. Montgomery County has lost one of its greatest citizens, and I, with many, many others, have lost a friend." Emily Mintz Click Here for Article
